The formula
Overtime hours = max(paid hours − threshold, 0)
Total = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier
The overtime multiplier includes base pay for those hours. It is not an additional amount to add on top of an already counted overtime base. If your rate is 20 and the multiplier is 1.5, each qualifying overtime hour contributes 30 in total.
Choose your own period and assumptions
The example uses 46 paid hours, a threshold of 40 and a multiplier of 1.5. These are editable examples, not a rule for your country or job. Keep the hours and threshold in the same period. To calculate all hours at the base rate, set the threshold at or above the total, or set the multiplier to 1.
Currency is a label only; no conversion takes place. Displayed amounts use two decimal places for this arithmetic tool and may differ from a payroll system’s currency or rounding rules.
What the estimate leaves out
This tool does not determine legal eligibility, apply taxes, deductions, multiple overtime bands, salary rules or combined night and weekend premiums. It does not calculate take-home pay. Use the applicable employment terms and employer payroll records to check which hours and rates belong in your calculation.
